Niet ver van Amsterdam (Nederland) kunt u het eiland Pampus bezoeken. Het is een tot fort omgevormd eiland dat voor en na de Eerste en Tweede Wereldoorlog voor verschillende doeleinden diende. Eiland Pampus maakte deel uit van de zogenaamde Stelling van Amsterdam. Dit systeem werd gebruikt om Amsterdam te verdedigen bij overstromingen.
