In juli 2025 bezocht ik in het mooie Zuid-Limburg (Nederland) een speciale locatie: de Cannerberg. In deze heuvel is verstopt: het voormalige Joint Operations Center (JOC) van de NAVO, ook bekend als het NAVO-hoofdkwartier Cannerberg. Dit was een geheime militaire faciliteit in de Cannerberg bij Maastricht. Tijdens de Koude Oorlog diende het als een verbindingscentrum en hoofdkwartier voor de NAVO, met name voor de coördinatie van geallieerde land- en luchtstrijdkrachten in Noordwest-Europa. Het complex was gevestigd in een voormalige mergelgroeve en was zwaar beveiligd.

In July 2025, I visited a special location in beautiful South Limburg (Netherlands): the Cannerberg. Hidden within this hill is the former NATO Joint Operations Center (JOC), also known as NATO Headquarters Cannerberg. This was a secret military facility in the Cannerberg near Maastricht. During the Cold War, it served as a communications center and headquarters for NATO, specifically for the coordination of allied land and air forces in northwest Europe. The complex was located in a former marl quarry and was heavily secured.
