Amsterdam is a city that is known for its great views and fascinating history. Whether you’re here for a few days during your Europe trip or for an extended vacation, no visit to Amsterdam is complete without a canal cruise. It’s one of the most popular tourist attraction among both tourists and locals. There’s a reason why we always say that Amsterdam is best viewed from the waters, after all the city was built on water. More information about canal tours in the video.

The 17th century Canal Belt was placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list in 2011 and the medieval center of the city is undergoing an extensive renovation. On each canal there are historic, important or interesting sights.

The video that was published by Martijn, shows several nice things to visit in Amsterdam. One of nice things to visit in Amsterdam is the ‘Begijnhof’. Begijnhof Amsterdam is an oasis of peace in the busy Amsterdam City centre. It is one of the oldest courtyards in Amsterdam. They have existed since the Middle Ages and have provided housing for elderly people.
As soon as you enter the ‘Begijnhof’, you’ll find the Houten Huys (the Wooden house in old Dutch), which is a timber house dating back to 1528. Although Amsterdam historically had more timber houses, there were a few fires in the medieval ages that meant that the medieval buildings made from wood that once graced the city center are mostly gone now.

The Rijksmuseum is a popular place to visit in Amsterdam. The Night Watch Gallery was specially designed to showcase Rembrandt’s famous civic guard portrait – a painting that has gone down in history as marking the turning point in his career and as the superlative example of his creative genius.
In Martijn’s video you do see not only Rembrandt’s most famous painting, but you get a short impression of the things to see in the Rijksmuseum.
